A few weeks ago, I had an amazing revelation. I fell under major conviction after hearing a message entitled “The Blessed Life”. The thing that stuck out the most to me was the reality that I had never related tithing to serving.

Some know, others do not. My wife and I have been through several seasons of transition. After moving to Nashville, TN recently, we found ourselves settled as far as location, friends, church, etc. Where we have not been quite settled has been in the area of provision. I mean, we pay our tithes to God, we help people in need. What else could we possibly do, right? The answer actually floored me. Proverbs 11:25 says,” The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.” I realized, I was apparently not living a life of total blessing based upon that scripture. If the life of a person who is blessed means that they are “abundantly” blessed then where in the world were we going wrong? I took a step back and looked at everything as a whole. Yes, I have MANY blessing in my life, i.e., my kids, spouse, etc. A person who is truly living a blessed life should not struggle. That is how it had been feeling. It was as if everything was a struggle; especially in the area of finances.

The “Blessed Life” message revealed to me that the area I personally was lacking in was in the area of my time. I was not giving generously with my time. Basically, I was not using my time wisely. I mean, I was spending time with my kids while my wife was working. I was spending time with my wife when she wasn’t working. I was looking for areas of income, everyday. I still had quite a few hours in each day though, that was unaccounted for. When the message was going forth, the pastor said, ” Every deed is a seed. We’re always sowing where we are going.” WOW!!!!! What a revelation! Since my life seemed to not be completely going in the direction I wanted it to be going, it was now obvious to me that I was not sowing in the right areas. If you seem to never get enough help when you need it; when was the last time you did something without expectations of return? Whether it’s financial areas or other areas in your life; God loves a cheerful giver, not a stingy one who gives spoiled seed with an expectation of “gimme gimme gimme”. Maybe you’ve gone through a tragic experience and you can’t seem to get out of your slump. Try finding someone in a similar situation and help them through it. Start with telling them ,” I can sympathize with what you’re feeling.” You’ll be amazed how quick you forget about your own circumstances when you reach out to someone else. If you are unemployed, when is the last time you said,”I have time. I’ll sow my time and help out where needed?” No man is ever unemployed…they just choose not to work. You know your own value & the exact amount you would be paid for things you do. Call it seed sown & anticipate the harvest! That one was free of charge for you via Pastor Danny Chambers..:)

Here’s the deal. We need to ask ourselves,”Where can I serve? ” We all have gifts, talents, & areas of expertise. If you serve, you get served back. The result is based upon your output. Maybe, you think,”I don’t have anything to offer.” I’m telling you, YES YOU DO!!!! Even if your dish is empty, you can always serve. Always be looking for opportunities to serve. You cannot afford not to serve. You have to quit your stinkin’ thinkin’! Start looking for areas you can offer help to. It’s not up to you what others do with your efforts. Since my wife and I have made the necessary adjustments, those struggles and feelings of lack have started to leave. To quote Adonis Lenzy,”You will know you are a servant by the way you respond when you are treated like one!” Do things with a cheerful heart and unselfishly. You do your part and God will do His. Go, Serve, & Be Blessed!!!

Here is the link for the message I was referring to. It was the second part of a three part series. It’s entitled “The Blessed Life – Wk2″. You can find it in the right side menu. Check it out @ http://oasisworship.com/player-on-demand.php

Recently, as some of you may know, my wife and I embarked on a brand new journey. Here’s the skinny. Approximately one year ago, I had an encounter with God like none before. I had been sensing a period of transition for several years, as had my wife, prior to this momentous occasion. Through a series of personal times with God, I believe, He was guiding us swiftly in to a new season. Boy did that season show up and then some.

Let’s take a step backwards for a minute. I’ve always been surrounded by loads of support; i.e. family, friends, etc. Not to mention, never living outside of a radius of 50 miles. I had grown accustomed to life and what it had brought me thus far. After all, I have the most stunningly beautiful wife ever, three gorgeous children, and a home to be proud of. What more could I need right?

Years ago, I had someone speak a word from God in to my life. They said,” When you become content with where you are in life, that’s when God will shake up your world and launch you further than you can imagine.” It did make sense, but “life” had soon crept in and I began to forget. Fast forward to 2010. I had become content with everything that was going on in our life. God was still using us to minister to people in our local church and community. Problem was, I personally, was unsettled inside. I analyzed everything to the point of exhaustion at times. Still, nothing! I was like, “God, what are you doing?” We’ve all been there to some degree. It was almost as if the air was being sucked out of me. It felt as if the more I tried to dig in to His presence about it, the more confusion set in. Finally, I prayed and asked God to order the steps of my life and show me the next step. Well, the answer came. While listening to a recording artist whose music and ministry had helped shape the call God had on my life and is now a pastor, I heard that still small voice!!! God said,” That’s your pastor!” I struggled a bit with this at the beginning. Again, where I was, was ALL I had ever known. Not to mention, this pastor’s church was three states away in Nashville, TN. Crazy right? YEP, it is crazy. But that is how our God operates. He’s crazy! He’d have to be to create an entire civilization that He knew ahead of time would mostly reject Him. But, He did it because He loved us. If He didn’t give us the free will to choose Him, He might as well have created a bunch of robots to fetch His drink for Him from the fridge! So, yeah, God’s crazy……Crazy in love with me & you. He only wants and presents the best for us. It’s up to us to take the bait and run with it. Anyways, when it came to my situation, God told me,” I’m doing this because I love you.” I didn’t understand and asked for clarity. He returned with this,” The time is now for you to go out and do what I’ve called you to do. You’ve been raised up for such a time as this.” Needless to say, He called and we answered!

We are now living, in Nashville, TN and trust me, there have been many roadblocks along the way. We’ve encountered numerous opinions of others, on many different levels. We’ve traveled through the worst weather ever to drive in, trying to get things set in place prior to the move. It can only confirm that what we are doing is in obedience to Him. This was recently confirmed to me through our new church, Oasis Worship Centre, headed up by Pastors Danny & Jillian Chambers. Pastor Jill was continuing on a series entitled “Beyond the Storms”. Her subtitle in this series was, “The Flip Side”. She said, “Don’t waste your time trying to figure out the instruction of the Lord; He’s trying to do a new thing. He’s getting you set up and preparing you for that new position. Stop questioning the instructions of the direction of the Lord. He’s also trying to protect you from the storm that is coming. If you compromise the instructions, you compromise the mission. You’ll fall apart. Storms come to place you on the shores of your purpose.

I am starting to be able to breathe again, a little. The thing is though, where do you go from here? I wasn’t in one of those families that move every couple of years. I really have no clue what I’m doing. I don’t truly have to though. That is where faith comes in. As Dr. Cho, who pastors the largest congregational church in the world says, “I pray and obey. “ That is what we’ve done. We prayed and obeyed.

We’ve moved to where we barely know anyone. We don’t know the area. Let’s face it; you have to completely earn your trust and reputation with others in every area of your life that we’ve spent our whole life building somewhere else. He has already begun to place people in our lives who are at times, helping to take off some of the pressure. My kids even have some new adopted grandparents. All of this is great, but, it can still be a little overwhelming. The one thing that I can rest in though is that God himself told me to do what we are doing. To be at rest with that is all I need to learn to breathe again. The remaining details are waiting for our obedience.
